Reconfigure Repair brings u Error 27502
  • Georg January 10

    Hi,

I wanted to Recconfigure / Repair my EventSentry Setup. After copying the files I get an error

"Error 27502. Could not connect to Microsoft SQL Server 'SERVERNAME'. Login failed for user 'sa'. (18456)"

EventSentry is configured for Microsoft SQL Server. In the registry I found in
HKLM\Software\netkikus.net\EventSentry\Installer that the dsn "EventSentry MSSQL" is used.
I cheched this dsn and it is correct. What I can't find in any way is the configuration for the user used to access the SQL Server with this dsn.

    Any ideas on this.

This EventSentry installation runs on an Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2.

    Thanks for an answer
    Georg

    Hi Georg,

When repairing EventSentry if it does not prompt you for a SA password then you would have to save your configuration (by selecting 'File -> Export') and then uninstall EventSentry and do a fresh (clean) installation again on the system.

This is due to a bug in the installer which we are resolving shortly, but since you are not prompted for a password the only resolution at this point would be to remove/reinstall.

Once reinstalled, you can copy your configuration back by selecting 'File -> Import' this will reimport your complete configuration.

    Hi Steve,

    thx for the fast answer.

What about the data in the EventSentry database. Will it remain or should a backup and restore the database?

And how about my WebReports settings. Shall I save the XML Files and web.config before uninstall?

    Bye
    Georg

    HI Georg,

The data in your EventSentry database will be unaffected by the uninstall. When you re-install just be sure to enter the same passwords that you are currently using for the eventsetnry_svc and _web users. Yes, I'd recommend saving copies of the WebReportsUsers.XML and WebReportsConfig.XML files before you uninstall.
